Here, we have compiled a list of the most frequently asked questions for your benefit. Solar energy is an inexhaustible and clean energy that does not damage the environment. To help preserve the global environment and promote the growth of human society in harmony with nature, Omicron Panama Corporation is committed to developing solar systems and distributing Solar Modules.
What are photovoltaics?Photovoltaic systems seek to convert sunlight into electricity. While "photo" means "light", "voltaic" is "voltage".
How do I know if Solar Modules are compatible with my needs?Photovoltaic systems can be used in all circumstances and in any geographical areas. Generally, they are used in remote locations where there is no technically feasible or economical way to purchase electricity from an electric company or distributor. Solar Panels are incredibly divers in their uses, in the sense that they can be used for a variety of different projects; ranging from nighttime traffic signals, to extracting water from deep wells, medical uses, electric fences, public/residential lighting, to supply power to telecommunications relay stations in remote locations; the possibilities are limitless!
How do solar module systems function? The uptake of solar radiation in photovoltaic systems is accomplished through photovoltaic cells - popularly known as "solar panels" or "solar cells" . The basic structure of the solar panels consists of two semiconductors located opposite each other. The process begins when the sun's rays pierce the transparent protective cover of the solar panels. Once they come into contact with the semiconductor negatively charged electrons are knocked loose from the atoms of the semiconductor. These electrons are forced through an external circuit to the positive semiconductor located in the bottom of the solar panels. As the electrons come into contact with the semiconductor they are forced back to the semiconductor´s negative side, forming a flow that generates electricity.
Why we need a voltage inverter to operate a system of Solar Panel(s)?Photovoltaic systems generate direct current (DC). However, the type of power used by appliances is "alternating current" (AC). Thus, PV systems are supplied with a voltage inverter, which transforms the electricity generated by solar panels into an alternating current that is the same energy you get from traditional public network that most appliances work on.
Is it possible to use photovoltaic systems in Panama? You can use a photovoltaic system virtually anywhere in world. By measuring the "solar radiation" is not possible to determine the ability to have a photovoltaic system for solar energy capture in a particular geographic location. The second variable to consider is to estimate the level of "heat stroke" which varies according to latitude and longitude and declination of the sun where you want to install the photovoltaic system. Can solar cells photovoltaic systems generate electricity on cloudy days?Although solar cells in photovoltaic systems work best when the sun is shining brightly, they do generate electricity, but at a reduced output on cloudy days. Can normal electric home appliances of a house be used with the electricity generated by the photovoltaic systems?Yes, one is has to consider that the electric appliances´ energy demand is different from equipment especially designed to be used with solar energy. For the photovoltaic systems, water plates, microwaves and boilers are considered “expensive”, as far as the energy demand. Can I use a photovoltaic system to heat water for a home(s)?Using a photovoltaic system for this purpose is extremely inefficient and costly. Involving an installation of a significant area of solar cells to capture the solar light needed to generate enough energy. Preferably, one uses passive solar or thermal solutions solar, which are different from photovoltaic systems. These allow hot water from the heat emanated by the sun to be use which is a much more economically viable solution. Expo Solar>
